OUR COMMITMENT
In the complex relationship between man and nature, wine enlivens us with captivating combinations of terroirs, grapes and vintages.
As the world’s most major Northern wine region, drastic climatic changes occur from one year to another. Champagne has developed a unique expertise in creating wines brimming with infinite characteristics.
At DS Champagne, we pursue the vision of our founder Philippe Dunoyer de Segonzac whose family’s wine connection dates back to the 13th century and offer remarkable, naturally flamboyant champagnes, enhanced by years of bottle maturation on lees for a delectable flavour discovery with your wine-loving friends.
“Only good times” is our commitment; from Champagne’s best crus, grapes and vintages… to life’s best stories!
OUR HOUSE
Situated in the heart of the Champagne region, and more precisely in the Premier Cru village of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, the initial settlements date back to the Iron Age over 2,000 years ago. Our house is on Place du Grand Jard (Grand Garden Place), also called Chemin des Amoureux (Lovers’ Path) along the bucolic Canal de la Marne.
Our wines are slowly and silently going through maturation in a dark cellar, which lies underneath a magnificent garden full of colors and fragrances. Delicate flowers and robust trees play together just like in an impressionist painting of André Dunoyer de Segonzac.
This unique setting provides an infinite scope of possibilities to taste our wines and enjoy their characteristics through the prism of location. From indoor to outdoor, sunrise to sunset, the environment is constantly evolving just like in real life.
WINEMAKING
We LOVE chardonnay, especially the chardonnay which grows in the Premier Crus surrounding our house. In this terroir between Côte des Blancs (where chardonnay dominates) and Montagne de Reims (where pinot noir dominates), the chardonnay often “pinots” as the locals say (from French verb “pinoter”). It showcases characteristics of the pinot grape; the body, fruitiness and opulence, while keeping the finesse, elegance and silkiness of the chardonnay.
Through our artisanal quest for Champagne’s most outstanding wines, we work with vine-growers who share our passion for chardonnay. Every year brings new flavours and textures, hence our focus on vintages, and our decision to keep the wines natural through minimum dosage.
A long maturation on lees enhances the development of secondary and tertiary aromas over time. Open a bottle now and save others for the years to come, regardless, it will be a flavour odyssey.
